Though the series is clearly just starting out, I really hope they continue it as there’s just so much potential here. Fault Milestone 2 also sets the rest of the series up to be rather episodic, including a B plot involving a party from Ritona and Selphine’s kingdom dealing with their missing princess. We’re still waiting on the second half of it, so it feels a bit less complete than the chapter exploring the town Ritona and Selphine initially ended up in. And trust me, the payoffs were well worth it.įault Milestone 2: Side Above picks up at the moment the first one left off, and continues the adventure in yet another brand new land. They keep it light with lots of fun action and fantasy elements, but also pepper in intrigue, mystery, and suspense throughout. It’s hard to describe, but when this VN is good, it’s just really good. Their powers become much less useful overall and they have to adapt to new ways of thinking and behaving quickly, lest they be discovered.Īnd, of course, they meet a lot of wonderful characters along the way. And then they get teleported to the other side of the world, where the people have to rely on machines and science instead of magic. See, Ritona and Selphine come from a land where magic is commonplace. But that’s honestly okay since once Ritona and Selphine leave their home country things pick up and get interesting. Actually, the intro part overall is probably the weakest part of Fault Milestone 1. Once the characters explain a bit more on how magic in their universe works it’s fine, but I recall feeling a bit thrown for the first few minutes. I would say it’s biggest fault (okay, I apologize for that) is learning the internal rules of how magic works in the narrative. They find themselves on the other side of their world, and what follows is some of the most entertaining fantasy worldbuilding I’ve seen from a VN series. This review isn’t fresh off reading this pair of VNs, but I’ve been thinking about them recently and wanted to talk about the Fault series a bit.įault Milestone is currently a pair of kinetic visual novels telling the story of Princess Selphine and her Royal Guard Ritona getting back home after using experimental magic to escape an attack on Selphine’s kingdom.
